Multiple Realities: Implementing Quality in Teacher Education. You are invited to submit a proposal that shares how the process of negotiating multiple realities can result in the successful implementation of quality preparation and support of teacher educators in North Carolina. Proposals from all areas of educator preparation, including arts and sciences, will be welcomed.
(Please note the separate requirements for proposals for the Student Poster Session below.)
The following strands may be addressed:
- Preparation of High Quality Teachers, School Leaders, and/or School Support Personnel;
- Action Research, Teacher Inquiry, Self-study Practices, or Transformative Education;
- Curriculum Development, Instruction, Assessment, or Going Green;
- Cultural, Social, or Gender Issues;
- Collaborative Partnerships;
- Recruiting, Retaining, and/or Mentoring Educators;
- Utilizing Best Practices;
- Building Diverse/Equitable Communities, and/or Globalization;
- Developing Research Bases; or
- Supporting Learning through Technology.
Interested presenters should submit a proposal by May 31, 2008, via e-mail attachment (MS Word format, please) to Randy Kohlenberg at rbkohlen@uncg.edu. The proposal file should include in the subject line the lead presenter’s LAST NAME, FIRST INITIAL, hyphen, and FIRST SEVERAL WORDS OF THE TITLE. (e.g., Al Smith’s file is titled SmithA-ProposalTitle). Following this format will expedite the distribution to the committee members who will review all proposals (see website for evaluation criteria). Lead presenters/contact persons who are invited to present will be contacted in early August 2008. If no response is received after your submission, contact R. Kohlenberg at rbkohlen@uncg.edu.
Forum sessions will be either twenty-five (25) (if two presentations per session are needed to allow all qualified presentations) or fifty (50) minutes in length, including time for questions and discussion. Proposals should include the information below in the order listed. This information is embedded in the proposal template that should be used for submission (access at http://www.nc-acte.org). Along with the Call for Proposals, criteria for the review of the proposals are located on that website.
- Cover Page that includes:
- Title of presentation (15 word limit);
- List of presenter(s) with the contact person listed first (See Limits on the Number of Presentations below. Correspondence will be with contact person only.);
- Institutional affiliation, the address, telephone number, and e-mail address for all presenters;
- Strand identification—one strand (or a maximum of two strands) should be identified as the focus of the proposal;
- Abstract that will appear as the session description in the program book (50-word limit—Use the word count tool in the word processing software program [in Word: under tools] to verify compliance.);
- Session agenda and objectives; and
- Technology requirements. (An overhead projector and screen will be provided at no cost. Any other technical equipment will be the responsibility of the presenters at their expense. Internet access MAY be available, but is not guaranteed.)
- Proposal. No more than three single spaced typed pages with one inch margins, 12-point Times New Roman font that includes:
- The purpose/rationale/literature review,
- A description of the information to be presented,
- The conclusion/synthesis of ideas presented, and
- Bibliographical citations as appropriate.
- Note: This information will be included in an electronic version of the Conference Proceedings that can be retrieved from the NC-ACTE website. Because participants cannot attend every session, proceedings allow other presentations of interest that were missed because of scheduling conflicts to be read.
- In subject line of the e-mail, as stated above, type lead presenter’s LAST NAME, FIRST INITIAL, hyphen, and FIRST SEVERAL WORDS OF THE TITLE.
Limits on the Number of Presentations:
- A person may be lead presenter on only ONE proposal.
- A person may be second presenter (or another position) on a maximum of TWO proposals (or the lead presenter on one and another position on one).
(Note: PROPOSALS THAT DO NOT ADHERE TO THESE GUIDELINES WILL BE RETURNED.)
